S&T CZ delivers new information system for ABB s.r.o.. Elektro-Praga Jablonec nad Nisou

System integrator S&T CZ completed the first implementation stage of manufacturing execution system (MES) in ABB s.r.o. Elektro Praga company based in Jablonec nad Nisou.
The contract between both companies was signed at the end of 2009 and will continue till 2012.

The project target was a system for on-line monitoring and effectiveness control of individual manufacturing equipments, future control of correct routing and stability of process linked to production batch. The project also includes PREACTOR system used for finite scheduling and loading (APS system).

“Manufacturing equipments in ABB s.r.o. Elektro Praga Jablonec nad Nisou are very diverse and some of them, using older control systems, could not adopt modern communication modes, so a suitable configuration needed to be found at first. Therefore the first stage was a bit longer than expected. Now the customer has got all final assembly under control and relevant production information is on-line available. ABB company contributed to the successful solution as well, giving credence to the system and having understanding and patience with emerging problems,” said Jaroslav Střelka, Industrial Applications Manager in S&T CZ.

The first implementation stage was realised in 2010 and included system for final assembly centre. During the following stages the system will be deployed to thermoplastics, reactoplastics, and metal pressing centres, as well as to tools plant. The total system will comprise more than 50 manufacturing equipments.

The resulting system is based on Wonderware platform. Its headstone is Wonderware System Platform license complemented by Wonderware Performance Module for monitoring of equipment effectiveness. In future also Wonderware Operation Module will be added to provide product traceability. The system was customised according to customer requirements and the data are captured directly from manufacturing machines. User interface was realised using modern panel IPCs located in shop floor process. Data are then presented to responsible persons using prepared manufacturing Internet/Intranet portal.

“We have already passed the initial issues and managed them together. In this year we would like to complete the second stage in plastics pressing centres and I believe we will be equally successful as in the first stage. Thanks to the new information system, we shall get support tool for more efficient management and further development of our company,” says Jaroslav Benda, Production Manager in ABB.
